Project's Overview
Online Fruit Order Management System is a full-stack MERN web application designed for ordering fresh fruits online. The system includes a customer-facing storefront where users can browse fruits, search and sort products, add fruits to cart, proceed to checkout, place orders, view order history, cancel pending orders, and manage their profile. It also includes a dedicated Admin Panel for managing fruit products, categories, customer orders, customer accounts, product status, revenue statistics, and order analytics.
The project supports JWT-based authentication, cart persistence using localStorage, product image upload through Multer, MongoDB database storage, and a complete order lifecycle. Admin can add, update, delete, activate, and deactivate fruit products, manage categories, update order status, and manage customer accounts. The order flow includes browsing fruits, adding items to cart, checkout, order creation, admin-side order status updates, and cancellation of pending orders.

Step 1: Install backend dependencies
cd backend

If VITE_API_BASE_URL is not set, the frontend defaults to http://localhost:5000.
Step 5: Start MongoDB
Make sure MongoDB is running locally or update MONGO_URI with a MongoDB Atlas connection string.
Step 6: Seed the database
cd backend
npm run seed
The seed script clears existing data and inserts sample admin users, customer users, categories, fruits, and sample orders.
Step 7: Run backend
Open Terminal 1:
cd backend
npm run dev
Backend runs at:
http://localhost:5000
Step 8: Run frontend
Open Terminal 2:
cd frontend
npm run dev
Frontend runs at:
http://localhost:5173
